The release of this album was followed shortly by numerous tours, which eventually led to drummer Chris Kontos leaving the band and being replaced, after careful consideration, by Dave McClain , who would stay with the band until Kontos, along with guitarist Logan Mader , would return to Machine Head in to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Burn My Eyes ' s release with a tour, though he is not officially rejoining the band.

The album has since become a lasting success. In , it quickly became a Roadrunner Records best seller and was the label's best-selling debut album for a number of years, until the release of Slipknot's self-titled debut. On October 31, , Roadrunner Records announced that as part of their 25th Anniversary, they would be re-releasing Burn My Eyes with a bonus CD , which includes previously unreleased tracks and rarities.

It was said to be due out on January 8, but was then pushed back to September so it would not interfere with the release of The Blackening. However, the re-release was in fact cancelled. Robb Flynn explained this on his blog, which is posted on Machinehead1. And as far as we're concerned, that's a good thing.

This is the year of The Blackening , and the time frame to re-release it has passed, not to mention that the idea of re-releasing a year old album that we already celebrated with 2 anniversary shows 3 years ago makes zero sense to us. We were never excited about re-issuing it to begin with, as it was just gonna have a bunch of b-sides, and wouldn't have been nearly as cool some of the other re-issues that had DVDs and all sorts of cool shit All lyrics are written by Robb Flynn ; all music is composed by Machine Head.

Album Rating: 4. I liked reading what's here and it was well written, but like what MO said, it ends abruptly and I expected it to be longer.

True, but even their last few have 3. They are solid apart from the nu metal shitstorm that took hold of two of their albums. Album Rating: 5. Can I edit or do I have to resubmit? The part where the first growl comes in on Davidian is one of the best in music history. Digging: UFO - Obsession. Like others have said, try to elaborate more on your reviews. You're off to a good start. Certainly not bad for a first. Enclosing the track names in quotation marks and expressing album titles in itallics would be a sexy touch.

Funny thing, I recently had the idea to review this, only I intended to give it a 4. And the social elements are still very relevant today, agreed with that too. So yeah, the album does stand the test of time, perhaps even moreso than MH's other, even more acclaimed albums. That art resembles to me some guy bending another person over lol. LaughingSkull - Thanks for the agreement. While I enjoy their later albums, they are definitely focused on shredding, compared to the absolutely primal feelings evoked here.

Kudos for touching on that. Machine Head Burn My Eyes 5.

Burn My Eyes is the DEFINATIVE classic from Machine Head. The More Things Change and Through The Ashes of Empires are both great albums as well, but this album is where the band made their mark in the metal world. Kicking off the album is Davidian which is a very heavy opener/5().

Released to massive European acclaim, Machine Head's full-length debut, Burn My Eyes, successfully bridges the gap between second-generation Bay Area thrash (Testament, Death Angel, etc.) and the modern-day Pantera school of hard knocks. Produced by underground stalwart Colin Richardson, Burn My Eyes is a bone-shattering exercise in brutality that gives Pantera's classic, Vulgar Display of 9/
