I love Stan Webb as a singer and a guitarist - but this album doesn't move me the way the somewhat eclectic "Accept" album from did and certainly not like the blues-rock power trio masterpiece of 's "Imagination Lady". For those who like the more standard blues approach of Chicken Shack's earlier albums like " Ton Chicken" will probably enjoy the good solid blues on this album.
But if you're expecting anything like his teaming up with fellow blues guitar masters Kim Simmonds and Miller Anderson on the Savoy Brown "Boogie Brothers" album of you'll be disappointed.
One person found this helpful. What an excellent CD. Every song is so good. Do yourself a favor and give this a listen I love this CD. Stan does a great job. This copy is better than trying to listen to the one on you tube.
I saw it in the used area cheaper than I ever saw it, so I had to buy it. This cat can play! This is unquestionably one of the best Blues discs I own The Thrill is Gone is worth the price of this disc alone. This album is a true representation of Stan Webb's Chicken Shack live set even today, I have seen them as recently as June and the set still contains some of this material.
The guitar work from both Stan the man and Gary Davis is a pleasure to hear, supported by a strong bass and drum section that is rock solid all the way through. This album is well worth buying as an introduction to a very sadly overlooked guiter hero who's explosive and soulful style equals most of the top guitar names, also this is a live act well worth seeing for pure power blues at its best.
This is a very nice album by Stan Webb's Chicken Shack. It serves as an introduction to the band, since it contains some old classics, along with blues songs. And if you like a nice guitar work, you'll enjoy Stan Webb's guitar playing. He's an almost unknow guitar hero, and it's a shame that he's not at the guitarist's Pantheon with Clapton, Green and the other british blues players. Listen to it! See all reviews. The set was recorded at the planetarium in Chicago - and for the date, Cohran comes up with a really cosmic sound - a small combo that's heavy on string sounds from guitar, bass, and harp - layered together beautifully to create these Alice Coltrane-like undercurrents - over which the group solos with flute, trumpet, and trombone!
There's less players here than on some of Cohran's older Artistic Heritage Ensemble sets, but the sound is exactly like those records - right down to some key moments in which Phil plays his amazing Frankiphone - an electrified kalimba with a tremendous tone. THEME MUSIC TO US ALL Contains an early version of "Free Jazz", here called "First Take".

LOUIS ROUTE 95 Subtitled "The Columbia Sessions". A great anthology at a great price! N'BANI RUN These partisan blues men are out for trouble.. TRIED BABE It is also the first recording of his music which does not rely on his great skills as a performer or the instruments of his own design or modification.
Instead, in this 55 minute composition Grady has chosen 6 of his favorite instrumentalists and vocalists from a wide variety of backgrounds, each because of some unique quality that he finds in their musicality.
Grady calls upon these players to perform pitches with extreme accuracy, but also to use the wide range of timbres possible on their instruments or voices. This extremely meditative yet somewhat intense composition explores a tuning called Meta-Meantone - this tuning has the characteristics of exploiting a variety of acoustical phenomenon ranging from equal beating chords to the reinforcement of difference tone phenomenon.
This is an entirely acoustic recording with no processing effects of any kind. Originally designed for his own personal use, Grady considers this one of his finest compositions, performed exceptionally well, persuading him to release this for the enjoyment of others. The band is steeped in elements of traditional Mississippi hill country blues and rock and roll while always integrating newer elements of sound and song construction.
On their new album "Capitol Hill Country Blues" they give fans a dose of the familiar while pushing boundaries on songs such as the krautrock inspired instrumental "Green Lungs" and the album closing track "I Feel High", a stunningly beautiful acoustic track.
Fuzzed out heavy blues recorded and mixed by legendary producer and engineer Jack Endino. There are moments when Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's early works come to mind, but Psychedelta is a tighter approach.
GravelRoad are well known for their tour exploits with 60, miles travelled in the last 24 months. IT'S ME Rufus was a saxophone player who also picked up the bagpipes for a few excellent 60's albums for Atlantic Records, and although those albums are great, this independent album is a real mind blower!
Also reprints all the original ultra-spiritual liner notes in an 8 page booklet, with superior graphics. While he's been tearing up juke joints, festivals and dive bars since then with his own fiery brand of the blues, it wasn't until earlier this year that the Tennessee musician released his own debut solo album, Let It Slide, an acclaimed effort that No Depression described as, " If the Rolling Stones camped with Howlin' Wolf and Billy Gibbons on trucker speed for the weekend with a fuzz pedal, this would be its precious procreation.
On it, Holder, along with Travis Kilgore bass and Doug Bales drums , builds on the success of his previous album with eight newly penned tracks, along with three rousing covers. He has traveled around the world and the US, and played at festivals, clubs, in the streets, at churches, in public toilets, army surplus stores, and in a mental hospital or two. After more than a decade of struggling with depression and addiction, he has finally come back home, in Chattanooga TN, and assembled a first rate power trio.

After seven years of writing and recording demos with her friend Sam Phillips at Sun Studios, she established her own record label, Moon Records.
